Instructional League - Tee Ball Rules

Objective:

  • Our most important objective is to provide each and every player with a fun, positive and rewarding experience.

  • First, we want our players to develop as people: to become great teammates, learn the important values of sportsmanship and hard work, and to be respectful. We believe that every player should experience success and failure and learn how to take the best out of both outcomes.

  • Second, we want to see them develop as baseball players. We want every player to have the coaching and encouragement to become the best ballplayer they can be.

  • Third, we want our players to have fun -- a huge amount of fun.  We want all of our players to remember their baseball experiences for the rest of their lives.

Basic Rules:

  1. Each session will start with a 30 minute team practice.  The game will follow, and will end ~75-90 minutes after the session start time (generally 3 or 4 innings of game play).

  2. If a hit ball travels less than (10) feet from the home plate, it is a foul ball. (Unless you need to keep the games moving).

  3. At the beginning of the season, all players will hit off the tee.

  4. If the kids have demonstrated the ability to hit a thrown ball during practice, coach pitch may be introduced.  Batters will hit the ball into play or, after 4 pitches, a batting tee will be brought out to complete the at bat.

  5. A Coach should play the catcher position at all times.

  6. When not at bat, all players play in the field. Players should be rotated to different positions during the game.

  7. All batters and base runners must wear helmets.

  8. Score will not be kept.

  9. There will be no base stealing allowed. Players can not advance on an overthrow.

  10. Players have the option to take two bases if the ball is hit out of the infield (two bases maximum).

  11. Managers have the right to call their scheduled games due to inclement weather or field conditions while the game is in progress. The league will cancel any games prior to the start.  Games may be re-scheduled with the help of the managers involved and the League Director.

  12. Managers and/or Coaches should be on the playing field to proactively coach throughout the game and provide positive reinforcement.

  13. An inning ends when the entire line up has batted once. If an out is recorded, the batter/runner may stay on the bases, AND the defensive players should be encouraged for their defensive play.

  14. There will be no forfeits in Instructional League. Players may be borrowed from the opposing team if necessary.
