Medway Youth Baseball Summer Leagues

Players for the Summer League teams will be chosen by a combination of a vote of their respective League managers and an on-field skills assessment. For ages 9-12 there will be one skills session held on Mon 5/20 and one summer scrimmage held on Tue 5/21.  Age 8 will participate in a skills session only on Wed 5/22.

Additional details will be communicated via email.

We understand that families have vacation plans during the season time frame. However, due to the brevity of the season, players are asked to make a commitment to playing a minimum of 8 of the 10 games including playoffs.

There is a fee of $180 per player to participate in Tondorf, Sizzler, and Sparkler*.  This includes game shirt and hat.  The cost for Summer Farm is $100.

Tondorf Season

The Tondorf Season runs from June 14th through July 19th, with games on both weekdays and weekends.  There is a break from July 3rd to July 5th for the 4th of July holiday, with play resuming on Saturday July 6th.  The season is comprised of surrounding towns and Medway, playing in 4 league age divisions (9, 10, 11 and 12). Each team plays 10 games in addition to at least 1 playoff game. All Tondorf games are played at the Cassidy complex. 

Summer Sizzler Season

The Summer Sizzler season runs from mid-June to late-July, on roughly the same timeframe as Tondorf.  Games are played in Hopkinton at the EMC complex on both weekdays and weekends. The season is structured with 5 league age divisions (8, 9, 10, 11 and 12). Each team will play 10 games in additional to at least 1 playoff game. The Sizzler teams will be selected using the same process as the Tondorf team process listed above.

Summer Sparkler Season

The Summer Sparkler season is for 8-year-old players (Farm League), and runs from mid-June to late-July.  Games are played at Gryncel Park in Ashland on both weekdays and weekends.  Each team plays 9 games in addition to at least 1 playoff game.  There will be an evaluation process to determine the Sparkler team.

This league is a great introduction to summer baseball in a slightly more competitive environment.  The league is 100% player pitch.

Summer Farm Season

Summer Farm provides an introduction to the “big field” for 7 & 8 year-old players in an instructional environment, with a mix of kid and coach pitching.  The season runs from mid-June to mid-July.  For 2024, Summer Farm will be held as in-town program in Medway, primarily playing at McGovern on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Player Eligibility

In order to be eligible for a summer team, a player must have registered to play and met the minimum play requirement for the Spring season.  Injury waivers may be granted by the Summer Committee.  Players will need to compete in their age group even if they played in their "grade" for the Spring season.  If we are short on players for the Sizzler League, we may recruit players from surrounding towns and/or seek an age exemption from the Sizzler coordinators to allow a child to play with their "grade."

Player Selection Process

MYB endeavors to enter one team per age group into each Summer league, as long as we have enough players.  Players are selected to the team based on a combination of manager votes and summer evaluation scores.  

Team Sizes

Each team will have a maximum roster of 12 players, but could be less if we do not have enough players.  If we have an abundance of players, there is a chance that some players may not be placed on a team.  If that is the case, a full refund will be offered and the Summer Committee will do our best to find another team for those children to play on.  We will look to recruit players from surrounding towns if we need to fill out a roster.
